Rice Husks, the raw material of our product; that is the beginning of the business.
It began back in year 2005 when the founder of the company, Mr. Mogus Siew was on his trip back to his hometown Sekinchan, a paddy town; saw a hill which he later found out that the hill was a pile rice husks instead. Out of curiosity, he went to seek some more information from the locals. He was told that the piles of rice husks are scheduled to be sent for burning.
Burning the rice husk is usually the way the locals use to get rid of these agricultural by-products. Mogus has tasked upon himself to find ways of make use of this agricultural by-products and to solves the air pollution problem which caused by the burning.
Mogus has made an effort to spend his valuable time and resources on rice husks, pollution issue, technology and other areas which are related. After research, he was shocked by the annual consumption figure. He found out that there are 45 billions pairs of the disposable chopsticks are used in global annually. This has further encouraged him to study more about the environment pollutions.
A bold idea was born is using the rice husk as a raw material to produce disposable chopsticks to replace the wood or bamboo disposable chopsticks. This will reduces the forest consumption in cutting woods and environment pollution. Later, the first disposable chopsticks were produced. Mogus has decided to start producing reusable chopsticks, which he has found that the rice husks products are able to withstand multiple usage. This is the story behind the Melsom.
